Life Ain't So Hard With Toshiba's New 1.8-inch HDD.

Toshiba America Electronics Components (TAEC), Storage Device Division extended the scope of its Hard Disk Drive (HDD) product line with the introduction of its 1.8-inch HDD, the MK200lMPL, as well as its new 2.5-inch drives, offering areal density for computers. The introduction of the 2GB, 1.8-inch HDD brings TAEC performance to a range of equipment. In addition, the company continues to pioneer 2.5-inch HDDs with a generation of 10GB and 20GB HDDs, as well as a 6GB HDD that provides an alternative at a capacity for the entry-level market.

"With these introductions, [the company] leads the way in providing storage solutions that combine capacity with design and reliability," said Amy Lian, the director at Toshiba America Electronics Components' HDD Business Unit. "We are pleased to deliver HDD technology that will provide storage [that is] currently available in a form factor for PC, non-PC, and removable applications. In addition, our generation of 2.5-inch HDDs with areal densities enable PC users to keep pace with the advances in applications, while maintaining portability and storage options."

The company's new product provides PC Card Type II and ATA compliance in a pin-selectable connector. The product draws on the technologies that TAEC has developed in 2.5-inch HDD to achieve a 2GB capacity in a drive that stands 5mm high and weighs 55 grams.
