 won't be opening her crown up to the public anytime soon, the National Park Service told lawmakers who have been trying to reopen the area in the statue since it was closed in 2001. Fran Mainella, outgoing Park Service director, sent a letter to Rep. Anthony Weiner in August stating "the current access patterns reflect a responsible management strategy in the best interests of all our visitors."
