LexisNexis to Unveil Plans for Congressional Hearings Digital Collection, Forming the Largest Online Collection of Congressional Information.

. Now LexisNexis is taking the congressional hearings data, both published and unpublished hearings, and digitizing it so it is easily searchable with metadata tagging, as well as full-text searching.

The state-of-the-art indexing from LexisNexis provides precise and fast search capabilities for combing through nearly 200 years of congressional hearings online. Hearings can be located by searching for the bill number, committee, controlled subject headings, document or abstract full text, hearing number, public law number, Statutes at Large An official compilation of the acts and resolutions of each session of Congress published by the Office of the Federal Register in the National Archives and Record Service.  citation, title, or witness and affiliation. Searches can also be limited by date or Congress.

Seven libraries are located at University of Maryland, College Park campus, plus an additional library and media center located off-campus in Shady Grove. .

The LexisNexis Congressional Hearings Digital Collection will be available in three modules: Retrospective A (years: 1824-1979), Retrospective B (years: 1980-2003) and Prospective (years: 2004 and beyond), totaling close to 125,000 titles and an additional 1,500 titles will be added each year after 2004. LexisNexis is targeting early 2007 for the initial release.
