The Sports Fields Development Project was made possible through the innovative public-private partnership of RISF, a non-profit foundation, and the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation. Working collaboratively with local public schools and community-based organizations, RISF currently brings more than 5,000 children each year from the neighboring East Harlem and South Bronx communities to participate in Randall's Island Kids - an expanding program of sports, environmental and education activities.

Responding to a growing demand for quality sports, recreation and outdoor entertainment facilities in the City, RISF commissioned a master plan prepared by M. Paul Friedberg & Partners and Ricardo Zurita Architecture + Planning for Randall's and Ward's Islands.

Already implemented under the plan is construction of the world class Icahn Track & Field Stadium, and now in the development stage are a new and expanded Sportime Tennis Center and a 27-acre Aquatic Entertainment Complex. When complete, the Fields Project will enhance the quality and increase the quantity of much-needed athletic playing fields in the City.
