FELIX stands for Financial Executives List Exchange, and it is a moderated listserv that allows FEI members to share best practices and learn from one another. In July, we launched our first version of FELIX, which we call FELIX PC because it was specifically targeted to our members in private companies. Here's how it works: A member can submit a question on a topic of interest. That question is forwarded to all FELIX subscribers, who have the opportunity to comment or not. Responses to a given question are collected by the moderator moderator - A person, or small group of people, who manages a moderated mailing list or Usenet newsgroup. Moderators are responsible for determining which email submissions are passed on to the list or newsgroup. and then redistributed re·dis·trib·ute tr.v. re·dis·trib·ut·ed, re·dis·trib·ut·ing, re·dis·trib·utes To distribute again in a different way; reallocate. It is the subscribers--not the moderator--who define the nature of the ongoing discussion. So far, we've sent out more than 45 questions to 4,300 FEI members and received back more than 150 good responses based on practical experience. All questions and answers are archived on the FEI Web site, so members can refer to them as needed as needed prn. See prn order. . Here are some examples of the type of questions that FELIX PC subscribers have submitted--and had answered for them: * Our local natural gas utility has informed us that our costs will go up by 30 to 40 percent; what should we do now? * How can I find the least expensive health care costs for my company's employees without compromising coverage? * Is there a company that can provide payroll services for employees who are foreign nationals? * What are the most useful performance measures (both operating and financial) for privately held companies privately held company A firm whose shares are held within a relatively small circle of owners and are not traded publicly. ? Feedback from our members on this new service has been overwhelmingly positive. As a result, we have expanded the list-serv concept and launched FELIX Global at the end of October, allowing members of international companies access to one another to address their unique global concerns. Why is FELIX such a hit? The answer, I believe, is simple. FELIX successfully leverages the collective brainpower brain·pow·er n. 1. Intellectual capacity. 2. People of well-developed mental abilities: a country that doesn't value its brainpower. Noun 1. and expertise of the entire FEI membership of over 15,000. That is a reservoir of best practices and applied learning that is staggeringly broad and deep. Our members are leaders in both the public and private sector and command sufficient knowledge and experience to tackle any financial issue. FELIX lets you draw directly from that vast knowledge bank. It allows an individual FEI member sitting in his or her office, wrestling with a business problem, to throw that problem out to this powerful peer group and get back suggestions on the best way to handle it. Try it the next time you need help on a thorny thorn·y adj. thorn·i·er, thorn·i·est 1. Full of or covered with thorns. 2. Spiny. 3. Complements FEI Express FELIX complements and extends the informative value of FEI Express, but is unique because it allows for the sharing of more detailed information and gives members a medium by which to solicit answers to important questions of immediate concern. FELIX gives every member the opportunity to reach out to his/her peers and get back the million-dollar answer that can make the difference to a busy finance executive in a crunch situation. Many of you have told me that the opportunity to tap into the FEI member network is easily worth the price of your dues. Does this sound like something you'd find helpful? Check it out at www.fei.org/RF/felix. The creation of FELIX strengthens FEI's already robust membership value proposition. You've told us over and over that what matters to you most as an FEI member is networking and information, advocacy and ethical leadership. FELIX deepens both our networking and information benefit pools. You've also told us that we need to create ways to reduce member isolation and allow members of like interests to communicate with one another. FELIX ably addresses both those needs. We've taken justifiable jus·ti·fi·a·ble adj. Having sufficient grounds for justification; possible to justify: justifiable resentment. jus pride these past few years in our forward-looking use of technology to better serve our members, FELIX is just the latest incarnation incarnation, the assumption of human form by a god, an idea common in religion. In early times the idea was expressed in the belief that certain living men, often kings or priests, were divine incarnations. of that commitment to technological innovation. Take advantage of this great new member resource, brought to you by FERF. Tap into the undeniable power of FEI! |
