All in the Family

I enjoyed "Why I Love my Far-Out Family" [A/M A/M Away Message (AOL Instant Messaging)

Ashley

Thanks for "Why I Love my Far-Out Family." I'm 14, and I have a 19-year-old sister with Down syndrome Down syndrome, congenital disorder characterized by mild to severe mental retardation, slow physical development, and characteristic physical features. Down syndrome affects about 1 in every 730 live births and occurs in all populations equally. . I loved reading about Elyse and Melanie because I can relate to their situation. There are so many girls who don't see that disabled people are people too. Thanks again!

Shavin' Maven

Thank you for the Beauty Q&A section in the A/M '01 issue. I started shaving my legs last winter, and your article really helped me decide which brand of razor and shaving cream I should try. You've never done a road test with shaving products before--at least, I don't remember. I love it!

Brenna's Excellent Adventure

I appreciated "Vertical Limit" [A/M '01]. Not only did it teach me you can go out on a limb and try new things, but it also has great info about Adventure Quest Adventure Quest may refer to the following computer games:
  • AdventureQuest - an online single-player RPG developed by Artix Entertainment in 2002
  • Adventure Quest - a fantasy text adventure game developed in 1983 by Level 9 Computing
trips. It's especially cool for me because my brother is enrolled at Adventure Quest, and he's a friend of Brenna--the author.

Catherine

I just had to write and tell you how much I enjoyed "Vertical Limit." It is one of the best stories ever! It really inspires me to go out and capture my lifelong dreams.

inspired by "Vertical Limit." I admire Brenna so much for her courage and her truly positive outlook on life. I want her to know that she has motivated at least one girl to follow in her footsteps one day. I love your articles about girls who are strong and experience life-changing events. Thank you so much!

Sweet Potatoes sweet potato, trailing perennial plant (Ipomoea batatas) of the family Convolvulaceae (morning glory family), native to the New World tropics. Cultivated from ancient times by the Aztecs for its edible tubers, it was introduced into Europe in the 16th cent.

Thanks for the Short Stuff article "Calling All Couch Potatoes couch potato An Americanism for a sedentary person, usually ♂, whose predominant non-work activity consists in lying on a couch, watching TV. See Television intoxication 'syndrome.'. Cf Vigorous exercise. " [A/M '01]. My sister and I are going without TV for 60 days. We each get $1 for every day we go without. I'm not a big couch potato, but your article inspires me to resist the TV temptation--knowing that people nationwide are turning off the set with me. Thanks for a spectacular magazine.

Book Nook

My friends and I have been part of a book club for a couple years, and your article on book clubs ["Book Bash," A/M '01] has some great new ideas "New Ideas" is the debut single by Scottish New Wave/Indie Rock act The Dykeenies. It was first released as a Double A-side with "Will It Happen Tonight?" on July 17, 2006. The band also recorded a video for the track. . Book clubs are a great way to enjoy reading without the pressure of grades. For our next meeting, we selected Growing Wings, a book you suggested. I can't wait to discuss it.

I Can See Clearly Now

Thanks for "My View on Life" [A/M '01]. I love it! It's awesome Tiffin Tiffin, city (1990 pop. 18,604), seat of Seneca co., N central Ohio, on the scenic Sandusky River in a farm area; inc. 1835. I admire her attitude, and I think it's great you always have The View From Here section.

Once again, the A/M '01 issue is filled with awesome articles, great fashion tips and, best of all, true stories. My favorite My Favorite is an independent synthpop band from Long Island, New York. They released two CDs: Love at Absolute Zero and Happiest Days of Our Lives. My Favorite broke up on September 14, 2005, when singer Andrea Vaughn left the band.  is "My View on Life." I realize it doesn't matter what people think of you-just what you think about yourself. I really admire Tiffin's confidence.

A Bit of Friendly Advice

I love all the real advice you offer in "Tricky, Sticky Friendship Sitches" [AIM '01]. It really makes me think about how I treat my friends and how I should expect to be treated. Your information is really helpful!

The Skin You're In

I love your magazine. But, in your article about acne acne, common inflammatory disease of the hair follicles and sebaceous glands characterized by blackheads, whiteheads, pustules, nodules and, in the more severe forms, by cysts and scarring. The lesions appear on the face, neck, back, chest, and arms. , called "What really Works" [AIM '01], some important info is left out. I take Differin for occasional skin problems, and I think your readers need to know about the likely side effects Side effects

: It might make skin appear even worse before it gets better, and it can dry skin out. Also, it's really important to stay out of the sun while using the medication. Don't get me wrong--it's good stuff. Girls just need to know the whole story.

Where's Karen?

What's up? In your AIM '01 issue, I couldn't find Karen's Page. I hope you didn't get rid of her for good.

Marissa

Readers, rejoice! Karen and her letter are back. Nope, she didn't hurt her hands in an accident like one reader worried. An ad came in as two pages instead of one. And since those ad pages pay the hills, something had to go.
