SAVING OUR KIDS

I'm writing to thank you for the article on protecting children in your September 2000 issue ("Buckle Up!" Newspoints). I read BE to gain business savvy--it's especially helpful in my work managing a nonprofit A corporation or an association that conducts business for the benefit of the general public without shareholders and without a profit motive.

Nonprofits are also called not-for-profit corporations. Nonprofit corporations are created according to state law.
organization--but I also enjoy picking up nuggets Nuggets can refer to several branches of interest:
  • , a compilation of U.S. psychedelic rock released between 1965 and 1968
  • , a Rhino Records box set of non-U.S.
of information that relate to my being a well-rounded person.

It just so happens that my work is also geared around protecting children--by providing safe playgrounds for them--and that I am a mother of twins, who, even at age 4, still ride in child seats. Seeing your article, and the nearby advertisement from Volvo, pleased me very much. Too many very smart business people lose focus when it comes to something as simple as making their children buckle up or play safely. We need reminders.

Thank you for giving up a page of valuable editorial space to bring a good safety message to us, and kudos to Volvo for backing it up with a strategic, targeted ad.

"LINGO" LOVER

The Lifestyle section's Personal Passions column, "Learning Lingos" by Ann Brown Ann Leslie Brown (1943-1999) was an educational psychologist who developed methods for teaching children to be better learners. Her realization that children's learning difficulties often stem from an inability to use metacognitive strategies such as summarizing led to profound  (September 2000), was a fascinating article about Susan Fales-Hill and her passion for learning languages and cultures. I really understood and connected with Fales-Hill's belief that language is a passport passport

into different cultures. She stated at the end of the article that "you can learn much more when you communicate with someone in their native language"--and I absolutely agree!

My personal passion for "lingos" has encouraged as well as inspired me to start my own business for translating, marketing, consulting, and research in French and English. As a recent graduate of Atlanta's Emery emery: see corundum.

University, I worked with the French-American Chamber of Commerce for a year before going into business myself. The motto of my business is: "Promoting an appreciation for languages and cultures within the Francophone sector!" I especially encourage learning the French language because many African countries have French as their official language or a large population of French speakers. This is definitely an awesome and enriching way to connect with our African brothers and sisters on a higher level.

BUILDING WEALTH

I am a new subscriber to BLACK ENTERPRISE magazine. On a recent visit with my cousin, Aldene Sligh, in Inglewood, California, I read the January through August issues of BE, which she had displayed on the living room coffee table.

I sent for the BE Wealth Building Kit and have signed the Declaration of Financial Empowerment em·pow·er

FUTURE LEADERS Future Leaders is a UK schools-led charitable organisation that aims to widen the pool of talented leaders especially for urban challenging secondary schools. It was founded in March 2006 by Nat Wei, a former founder of Teach First.

I purchased a copy of the August 2000 issue of BE and I found it to be very informative with regard to finance, motivation, and success in business.

I enjoyed reading the article on the 30 leaders for the future ("30 for the Next 30"). It's amazing a·maze

2. Obsolete To bewilder; perplex.

I was surprised that there were no spiritual leaders among the "30 for the Next 30" (August 2000). Has BE forgotten its roots? Has black America forgotten its roots? I trust not.

God loves you and I'm sure that he is proud of the accomplishments of the magazine. Please remember him in all that you do!
