Fruitless Search

Usually, I cringe when reading all the hackneyed tips the "experts" give on job hunting, but Mark Lacter's article on the plight of the unemployed ("Out of Work -- And Scared," Comment, June 2) hit the bull's-eye.

Experts advise that one should spend 40 hours a week on a job search, a feat I too find a physical impossibility. Experts insist on networking. But no one cares, especially when the contact -- your neighbor's friend's cousin.

All I know is when a two-line ad that runs in the Los Angeles Daily News The Daily News of Los Angeles, also known as the Los Angeles Daily News, is the second largest circulating daily newspaper of Los Angeles, California. It is published by the Los Angeles Newspaper Group, which owns eight other Southern California newspapers  attracts more than 125 resumes, as I was told in my last interview, times are tough.

Regarding Mark Lacter's commentary in the June 2 issue ("Out of Work - and Scared"), how many corporations went under due to corporate greed? What happened to all the 401 (k)s? Who were these CEOs giving campaign funds to? How many CEOs have gone to jail? Who is in the White House? How much is it costing to rebuild Iraq? Where are the weapons of mass destruction Weapons that are capable of a high order of destruction and/or of being used in such a manner as to destroy large numbers of people. Weapons of mass destruction can be high explosives or nuclear, biological, chemical, and radiological weapons, but exclude the means of transporting or ? Is anyone listening? Bushgate. Hello!

C'mon guys, the column by Kathleen Parker about Jayson Blair is ridiculous ("Affirmative Action affirmative action, in the United States, programs to overcome the effects of past societal discrimination by allocating jobs and resources to members of specific groups, such as minorities and women.  Exposed in Jayson Blair Episode," May 26.) Parker nails him in the first paragraph, but then goes onto nail affirmative action without a hammer. Was Jayson Blair unqualified or was he just a lazy liar? In every profession there are lazy liars without regard to race.

Parker says she is for diversity, but is scared to death that an unqualified minority might be working in many of the professions. Whata joke!

Dinnertime

Your "Un-Public Relations" piece (L.A. Stories, May 19) correctly detailed how our business experienced a severe technology crisis with our e-mail database. We apologize, and would never wish to inconvenience or to trouble anyone. In an attempt to compensate those who have suffered, we would like to offer a complimentary invite to our next Round Table dinner. The event is a vibrant and stimulating evening in which a group of professionals intermix in·ter·mix
