Your editorial cartoonist An editorial cartoonist, also known as a political cartoonist, is an artist who draws cartoons that contain some level of political or social commentary. The most common outlet for political cartoonists is the editorial page of the newspaper not the dedicated comic section,  (Feb. 25) is treading on thin ice by declaring that "Ice Dancing ice dancing, ice-skating competition in which couples are required to perform dance routines to music. The sport gained popularity in the 1930s and the first world championships were held in 1950.  is not a sport." What about "extreme sports extreme sports

Ice dancers have as much stamina, artistry and grace as an L.A. Kings defenseman. Are Flamenco-inspired costumes any more or less silly and outlandish than knickers sported by today's baseball players?

Flag Waving Respect

I am writing in response to the recent Leonard Pitts column (Flag Waving Laws Impact Patriots as Well as Protesters, Feb. 4). In this time of heightened patriotic fervor, many more people are displaying the United States flag than ever before. And as is the case with any flag, time and weather eventually cause these flags to become tattered, torn, worn and frayed; no longer fitting emblems for display. However, displaying a flag that is no longer a fitting emblems for display is not an act of desecration. It is simply a breach of flag etiquette.

Community Policing

Your story "Parks Reappointment reappointment Hospital practice The renewal of medical staff membership and privileges of a practitioner whose previous service on the medical staff has met the staff's standard of Pt care. See Appointment.  Stirs City Hall Drama" and Mark Lacter's commentary in the Feb. 11 edition miss the most significant aspect of the Parks reappointment brouhaha: both the chief and the black political powers-that-be are miscalculating the depth of the anger directed at Parks' perceived elimination of community-based policing. Mayor Hahn, who is a true believer in the concept, seems to recognize that those who support community-based policing are voters.

The black political establishment -- Mark Ridley-Thomas, Jan Perry and Nate Holden -- must be totally out of touch if they think that those of us who live and vote in their districts won't remember their knee-jerk pillorying of the mayor.

Also, the Police Protective League should quit its incessant whining about being disciplined (no one outside the league believes LAPD 1. LAPD - Link Access Procedure on the D channel.
2. LAPD - Los Angeles Police Department.
should be a discipline-free zone) and come to the community-based policing party as well. Los Angeles needs police officers who are integrated into our neighborhoods and everyone except the chief and his blindly reactive followers knows it.
