Dear Mr. Balsamo: I am writing this letter to express my appreciation for the support that has been awarded to me through the National Environmental Health Association and the American Academy The American Academy in Berlin is a non-partisan academic institution in Berlin. It was founded in September 1994 by a group of prominent Americans and Germans, among them Richard Holbrooke, Henry Kissinger, Richard von Weizsäcker, Fritz Stern and Otto Graf Lambsdorff and opened in of Sanitarians Scholarship. This scholarship truly constitutes a gift that will last a lifetime--assistance with my education. I believe that in today's world, education is not a perk, but a requirement in order for one to succeed to one's fullest potential. I am currently a second-semester junior at Missouri Southern State University Missouri Southern State University (formerly Missouri Southern State College), is a public, state university located at 3950 E. Newman Road, Joplin, Missouri. Established in 1937 as Joplin Junior College, Missouri Southern became a four-year college in 1968. . After several years working as a secretary, I decided in January 2003 to finish my college degree. (In 1983, I had attended college in an attempt to obtain a business degree. I was unable to continue my college career at that time because of financial constraints. Twenty years TWENTY YEARS. The lapse of twenty years raises a presumption of certain facts, and after such a time, the party against whom the presumption has been raised, will be required to prove a negative to establish his rights. 2. later, I decided to go back to college to pursue a major in environmental health and minor in biology.) I have always been interested in the environment and in educating and helping others, and I felt that environmental health would be a good fit for my future. With my business background and current coursework, I hope that upon graduation I will be a great asset to the field. I currently have a grade point average of 3.4 and work hard at maintaining a good GPA GPA abbr. grade point average Noun 1. I also am involved with Girl Scouts Girl Scouts, recreational and service organization founded (1912) in Savannah, Ga., by Mrs. Juliette Gordon Low (1860–1927). It was originally modeled after the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides, organizations created in Great Britain by Sir Robert Baden-Powell during . Boy Scouts, and sports with my children. This year I was elected president of the Environmental Health Club at my college. This club does substantial volunteer work throughout the community. Last year, we worked on a hazardous waste Hazardous waste Any solid, liquid, or gaseous waste materials that, if improperly managed or disposed of, may pose substantial hazards to human health and the environment. We also conducted a badge-merit workshop for the Girl Scouts and this year plan to do the same for the Cub Scouts. The workshop is designed to help the scouts obtain merit badges in environmental health, science, and related subjects. The club's main goal with this project, though, is to interest youth in the environment and science-related subjects. Financially, I will benefit greatly from this scholarship, as will my family. I am a single mother, taking the last few classes for graduation, and I work a part-time job. The scholarship will definitely assist in the upcoming academic year. Again, I do appreciate greatly your granting of this scholarship. I hope that you can share this letter with the Scholarship Committee to express my thanks to them as well. Thank you all for this wonderful opportunity. Sincerely, M. Ann Thomas Missouri Southern State University |
