Letters to the Editor. To the Editor: I am writing on behalf of SAME Deutz-Fahr in regard to the article "NH Tops European Tractor Sales" published in the July/August 2000 issue of Implement and Tractor. Several statements are wrong and essential info is missing, so the article leads to misinterpretation in terms of the real postion SAME Deutz-Fahr holds in Western Europe. Based on the following September 1999 year-to-date data published in the EU, SAME Deutz-Fahr holds the number two market share position in Western Europe, Italy and Greece and the number one market share in Portugal and Switzerland. Western Europe: 1. New Holland - 24,811; 2. SAME Deutz Fahr - 20,758; 3. AGCO - 20,582 Portugal: 1. SAME Deutz-Fahr - 1,722; 2. New Holland - 1,275; 3. AGCO - 952 Switzerland: 1. SAME Deutz-Fahr -446; 2. AGCO - 346; 3. New Holland - 303 Italy: 1. New Holland - 7,814; 2. SAME Deutz -Fahr - 7,009; 3. Landini - 2,729 Greece: 1. New Holland -581; 2. SAME Deutz-Fahr - 482; 3. AGCO - 412 In addition, SAME Deutz-Fahr was number three in market share in Spain and Ireland. As you can easily notice, the data published in the article for Switzerland published data is wrong, and significant markets such as Italy (the number two market in Europe) and Spain are not even mentioned in the article. Also, some statements were not reflective of the reality, such as placing John Deere instead of SAME Deutz-Fahr with the second highest share of the Western Europe market. The statement that SAME Deutz-Fahr could not be found in the top three positions in any European country was also wrong. The figures I have presented clearly show the company's market share was first in two countries, second in two countries and third in two countries, in addition to placing second in Western Europe. I would appreciate these corrections be published in an issue of Implement & Tractor as soon as possible. Sincerely, Dan Chiru chiru: see antelope. National Sales Manager USA & Canada SAME Deutz-Fahr To the Editor: I found two shows in I&T's Ag Equipment Show Directory 2001 (Nov/Dec 2000) I plan to attend-- the Quad Cities Farm Equipment Show and the National Farm Machinery Show. I didn't find my favorite show, the Farm Progress Show. I went to it last year in Illinois and don't remember whether it shifts to Indiana or the Amana Colonies in Iowa this year. Your magazine is great! Keep up the good work. As a retired engineer from John Deere, I was especially pleased to see the lead article about the Road Scholars training vehicle. Thanks, Roy Harrington |
