Letter to the editor from Don Pennell re "Ontario needs the Family Coalition Party".My congratulations to the Editor for his bold and courageous column regarding our voting responsibilities (C.I., July/Aug. 2007, p. 3). He has summed up in one page what many of us have been trying to say for many years, but to no avail. The strategy used by various pro-life groups over the years to influence both politicians and government legislation to protect the unborn has been frankly speaking quite flawed flaw 1 n. 1. An imperfection, often concealed, that impairs soundness: a flaw in the crystal that caused it to shatter. See Synonyms at blemish. 2. . If the truth be stated, the same number of abortions reported and unreported today has not changed in 20 years. In a speech a few weeks ago I questioned, perhaps too strongly, whose hands does the blood of the unborn stain? Let me make my point with two hypothetical conversations. The first, between an unborn child and a voter; the second, between God and a voter. Unborn child to a pro-life voter: "Oh, how my heart rejoices when you picket on my behalf, or when you write a letter to the editor asking for my life to be protected. I am overjoyed o·ver·joy tr.v. o·ver·joyed, o·ver·joy·ing, o·ver·joys To fill with joy; delight. o when you stand in a public forum and proclaim pro·claim tr.v. pro·claimed, pro·claim·ing, pro·claims 1. To announce officially and publicly; declare. See Synonyms at announce. 2. my humanity, or even pray for me. But, I react in horror as I see you vote for a politician who owes his or her allegiance to a pro-abortion political party. You condemn my brothers and sisters in the womb womb n. See uterus. womb uterus. to death, for these politicians will not protect our lives. Please explain to us why you vote for them when you know they will not shield us?" Voter: Has nothing to say. (There is no logic in working to protect human life, while at the same time voting to destroy human life.) On judgment day God said to the pro-life voter: "I heard your prayers for the unborn, and I saw you work diligently dil·i·gent adj. Marked by persevering, painstaking effort. See Synonyms at busy. [Middle English, from Old French, from Latin d over the years to protect them while in the womb, and I was pleased. However, please explain to me why you voted to place in power political parties which pass legislation that is calculated to take the life of those I have created in my Likeness and in my Image?" Voter: "I didn't think the Family Coalition Party would win." God's answer: "If you had voted for them they would have won, and thousands of my little ones young children. See also: Little could have been saved." In the Gospel of Life, John Paul II John Paul II, 1920–2005, pope (1978–2005), a Pole (b. Wadowice) named Karol Józef Wojtyła; successor of John Paul I. He was the first non-Italian pope elected since the Dutch Adrian VI (1522–23) and the first Polish and Slavic pope. clearly states our responsibility and obligation in political matters with regards to the protection of all human life. If a pro-life voter thinks he can substantiate To establish the existence or truth of a particular fact through the use of competent evidence; to verify. For example, an Eyewitness might be called by a party to a lawsuit to substantiate that party's testimony. his action in voting for a pro-abortion political party, i.e Liberals, Progressive Conservatives, NDPers, or the Greens, I would like to hear from him how he justifies this decision from the perspective of Catholic morality. The Editor is to be commended for his July/August editorial. The Family Coalition Party is the only choice, not only for Catholics but all pro-lifers. Are you willing to put your name on the ballot and stand as a candidate? Don Pennell Former Leader, Family Coalition Party Vineland, ON |
