Letter from the editor.


UPFRONT's mission is helping teachers bring current events into their classrooms, and connecting what's happening in the world with their curriculums. But, as you well know, getting teens to focus on anything is a challenge! That's why we also look for "teen angles" on current events, and in this issue we have several stories with a strong teen focus.

Our cover story is about how recruiting has changed with the U.S. at war--for the recruiters, but more importantly, for the potential recruits. We focus on three teens from Kansas Kansas, state, United States
Kansas (kăn`zəs), midwestern state occupying the center of the coterminous United States. It is bordered by Missouri (E), Oklahoma (S), Colorado (W), and Nebraska (N).
