Letter: Mailbag - We should have a fixed day.

Byline: ALEC DYSON

I AGREE with Mr L Duncalf (Mailbag March 28) that Easter should be fixed in the calendar. It seems indeed illogical that this, the most sacred of Christian ceremonies (so we are told) is designated annually according to a phase of the moon.

Mr Duncalf is in luck, as I, being one in more than a million, know the formula for Easter Sunday which is: "The first Sunday, after the first full after the first day of Spring (March 21st)".Where is the logic in that?

The Christians surely can pick a suitable calendar date to celebrate Easter, as they did with Christmas.

Yes I believe that December 25 was appropriated as a good idea to lift the spirits of the faithful.

Pagans had feastings etc. to rejoice surviving the depths of winter long before Christianity.

No wonder I don't believe a word of their (my Sunday schoolteachers and others) attempted brainwashing.
