Brownlee's career in journalism spanned 60 years, during that time he was a daily news and television reporter for the Chicago Defender, the Chicago Daily News The Chicago Daily News was an afternoon daily newspaper based in Chicago, Illinois, and published between 1876 and 1978. The paper was founded by Melville E. Stone in 1875 and began publishing early the next year. , and then a TV executive.
