Leona M. (Menoche) Stevens Wray Lane.


AUBURN Leona M. (Menoche) Stevens Wray Lane of Dover, New Hampshire and Summerdale, Alabama, passed away Saturday, March 10th at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Beth and David Clark of Auburn, Ma. She formerly lived in Grafton and later Wells, Maine before moving to Dover 7 years ago. She wintered in Alabama for the past several years.

Born August 28, 1918 in Charlton, MA, she was the only child of Emma (Cormier) and Alphonse Menoche. She graduated from Charlton High School and the Wilfred Beauty Academy.

A professional hairdresser for many years, Mrs. Lane had her own beauty shop for many years in Leicester and later was the staff hairdresser at Washburn House, Worcester. She was a former member of the Grafton Women's Club and later was active in and served as president of the Maine State Women's Club Association. She was also a Lioness. Along with her late husband, Mrs. Wray Lane volunteered at York Hospital, putting in countless hours.

She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth, wife of David Clark of Auburn, MA and Susan, wife of David Sommers of Medford, NJ, and her son, Wesley Stevens and his wife Judy of Charlton. Lee was blessed with nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Carlyle O. Wray on 1993 and last week suffered the loss of her husband of seven years, Frederick W. Lane of Dover, NH.

The family wished to thank all the caregivers from UMass Memorial Hospice. Without your love and support, Lee would not have been able to be home. Special thanks go to Patricia Veil, RN, her faithful nurse, to Rev. Ted MacNeil (Mom appreciated your weekly spiritual visits) Tomoka, who made Grammy sing, and Chris her social worker.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, March 13th from 6-8 PM in Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St., Auburn, MA. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 14th with a service at 10:30 AM in First Congregational Church of Auburn, 128 Central St., Auburn. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton, MA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the UMass Memorial Foundation Hospice Program, P.O. 2795, Worcester, MA 01613-9938 or to the First Congregational Church of Auburn Sanctuary Renovation Fund, 128 Central St., Auburn, MA 01501.
