Brazil's development bank, Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Economico e Social, continues its financing binge binge (binj)

The bank lent Suzano Papel e Celulose, a pulp-and-paper company, US$1.10 billion to fund the Mucuri project, which will build a new mill and increase regional employment as well as Brazilian exports. The bank also is lending $853 million to the Brazilian subsidiaries of Volkswagen, Ford, GM and Fiat for the export of light passenger vehicles. The funds are part of a credit line created in September to support the auto industry. Volkswagen will receive $303 million; Ford $250 million; GM $200 million; and Fiat $100 million.
