Legislation and our profession.Legislation affects every aspect of our daily lives from health care and education to taxation and zoning issues. For this to happen, we need a representative from each state willing to contact the Council on Legislation to share this information. The Council in turn, will share this information via the website and also during the ADAA Annual Conference in the Council report. Communication from the states is equally important in assisting in the evaluation of requests for legislative assistance funding (LAP Funds). Each year, money in the ADAA budget is set aside to assist state components of ADAA with funds for their legislative activities. These funds are available through two programs: the Legislative Assistance Program (form 014) and the Emergency Legislative Assistance Program (form 015). Permissible use guidelines for the funds are the same for both programs: * Transportation for legislative activity (representative of state associations and ADAA) * Retainer A contract between attorney and client specifying the nature of the services to be rendered and the cost of the services. Retainer also denotes the fee that the client pays when employing an attorney to act on her behalf. fees (lobbyist, attorney, etc.) * Legislative printing, postage, telephone charges * Legislative public relations public relations, activities and policies used to create public interest in a person, idea, product, institution, or business establishment.
