for INFORMIX-OnLine Dynamic Server's enhanced backup and restore utility allowing database administrators to back up Informix databases while they remain on-line and in use. Customers can now back up very large databases in the reduced time window that 24x7 operation demands.

As customers move more mission-critical databases from mainframes to distributed networks, they need a way to protect this data from user errors, disk crashes, application errors, power failure and other unexpected failures. The high performance of Legato's Database Module allows frequent, regularly scheduled "lights-out" database backups to ensure high system availability.

Gilbert Wai, senior vice president of product development at Legato Systems, said, "Legato has a strong commitment to database protection as part of our network-wide data protection strategy. The Database Module for Informix, when coupled with NetWorker's advanced features for media management such as autochanger See autoloader.  support, tape labeling, tape rotation, and tape scheduling, allows Legato to deliver a very powerful database backup protection to the market. We're pleased to add Informix support to our existing suite of products which back up databases and key applications."

Legato has an active development relationship with Informix through the Informix Solutions Alliance Partner Program.

The Database Module extends NetWorker's media management features and ease-of-use to databases. Paper tracking of tapes and database configurations is no longer necessary, substantially reducing the administrative burden for database backup. The Database Module features fully unattended, "lights-out" operation and includes the ability to schedule partial or full backups on a regular or rotating schedule. NetWorker also offers support for a wide range of optical and tape devices, including autochangers, which minimizes operator intervention.
