Legal services provider Counsel Press sold to Dolan Media.

Dolan Media Company (Minneapolis, MN) has acquired Counsel Press (New York), the nation's largest provider of appellate services to the legal profession. No terms of the deal were given.

Established in 1938, Counsel Press handles 8000 appeals a year. Company staff attorneys and paralegals assist attorneys and law firms prepare and file legal appeals. Its services include scheduling, file conversion, document preparation and management, drafting of specialized notices and stipulations, filing with courts, and docket and case tracking during the appeals process. Dolan said the company focuses on assisting large appeals on short notice.

Counsel Press also assists clients in obtaining admissions and credentials needed to argue before certain courts, offers 'e-brief' services including case citation, transcript, exhibit and audio/visual presentation conversion to electrionic media via the Internet or CD, and sells document handling services to the real estate industry. The company has 74 employees.

Dolan Media provides specialized business information products and services. It operates daily and weekly business and legal publications and electronic information services in 21 U.S. markets. With the deal, Dolan said that law information and services now provide "well over half" the company's revenues. In September 2004, Dolan acquired Lawyers Weekly USA (Boston, MA) and 13 regional Lawyers Weekly titles.
