Legacy Integration, Healthcare, Security Information Days Featured at Upcoming OMG Meeting.Business Editors/High-Tech Writers NEEDHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 27, 2004 Standards Work in Modeling and Infrastructure, Tutorials Also Highlight Gathering June 21-25, 2004, in Orlando, FL, USA Members of the Object Management Group(TM) (OMG (1) See Object Management Group. (2) "Oh my God!" See digispeak. OMG - Object Management Group (TM)) will meet in Orlando, FL, USA from June 21-25, 2004 at a meeting sponsored by Sun Microsystems (www.sun.com) and Borland, Inc. (www.borland.com) to advance the organization's standards work and attend a strong line-up of information days and tutorials. Non-members are encouraged to attend as guests; for more information visit, http://www.omg.org/tcguest. Following is a preliminary schedule of events for the upcoming meeting. Legacy Integration, Healthcare, Security, Finance Information Days On Tuesday, June 22, a day-long session on "Introduction to Legacy Transformation Tool Sets", sponsored by OMG's Architecture-Driven Modernization Platform Task Force (PTF PTF - Program Temporary Fix ) will extract a categorization of tool capabilities from presentations by six vendors on their legacy integration tools. On Thursday, a session "Exploring Interoperability in Healthcare" will re-launch Healthcare Domain Task Force (DTF (Digital Tape Format) A high-performance magnetic tape technology from Sony that was based on the helical scan transport and cartridge shell of Sony's highly successful 1/2" Digital Betacam. ) standardization efforts. On Wednesday, the first in a series of security information days, "Focus on Access Management", will start with presentations on end-user access management requirements in finance, healthcare, manufacturing, and military domains; move on to providers' suggested directions for an OMG standard in this area; and conclude with a panel and group discussion. Finally, on Tuesday and Wednesday the Finance DTF will host speakers from the Federal Reserve Bank, the Financial Services Technology Consortium, Unisys' CTO (Chief Technical Officer) The executive responsible for the technical direction of an organization. See CIO and salary survey. for Financial Services, SWIFT, and others speaking on electronic payment gateway standards. Infrastructure Standards Work OMG's Real-time, Embedded, and Specialized Systems PTF will evaluate revised drafts of two anticipated standards: One extends CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture) A software-based interface from the Object Management Group (OMG) that allows software modules (objects) to communicate with each other no matter where they are located on a private network or the global (R) interoperability to take advantage of low-latency, zero-copy technologies such as Infiniband(R) and RapidIO that link locally clustered computers; the other allows the CORBA event service to publish over Reliable Ordered Multicast. The Middleware and Related Services PTF will complete evaluation and start the final series of votes leading to adoption of model-based support for stream communication between CORBA components, and an upgraded, transport-independent CORBA security protocol. Domain Standards Work The Business Enterprise Integration DTF will start the final series of votes leading to adoption of a Software Portfolio Management model and facility, and kick off work on a standard Organization Structure Metamodel. OMG Tutorials, MDA (1) (Monochrome Display Adapter) The first IBM PC monochrome video display standard for text. Due to its lack of graphics, MDA cards were often replaced with Hercules cards, which provided both text and graphics. See PC display modes and Hercules Graphics. Seminar, Software Demonstrations Four tutorials will survey and highlight OMG specifications and technology areas, including a "Survey of OMG Specifications", "Introduction to UML(TM) 2.0", "Using MDA for Metamodeling", and "Overview of the Software Communications Architecture The Software Communications Architecture (SCA) is an open architecture framework that tells designers how elements of hardware and software are to operate in harmony within a software defined radio. SCA is a key element in the U.S. military's Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS). ". Meeting sponsors Sun Microsystems and Borland, Inc. will speak at a plenary session on Wednesday, June 23. OMG's MDA FastStart program will host a free seminar on "Bringing in MDA" on Tuesday morning. Open and freely available, OMG specifications have been implemented by many vendors, universities, and other groups. In Orlando on Tuesday and Wednesday, a number of implementors will display their products at a central demonstration area. UML Certification Examinations Attendees may take the organization's new UML Certification examinations during the meeting week. No pre-registration is necessary to take the tests, which will be offered at a nearby testing site all week. For more information about the certification program, see www.omg.org/uml-certification. This meeting description is based on preliminary information. OMG Task Forces will finalize their agendas for the meeting during the week of June 7th and post them at www.omg.org/agendas. Agendas appear at www.omg.org/agendas. Information about the MDA is collected at www.omg.org/mda. All OMG specifications may be downloaded free of charge from www.omg.org/ specifications. About The OMG With well-established standards covering software from design and development, through deployment and maintenance, and extending to evolution to future platforms, the Object Management Group (OMG) supports a full-lifecycle approach to enterprise integration which maximizes ROI (Return On Investment) The monetary benefits derived from having spent money on developing or revising a system. In the IT world, there are more ways to compute ROI than Carter has liver pills (and for those of you who never heard of that expression, it means a lot). , the key to successful IT. OMG's standards cover multiple operating systems, programming languages, middleware and networking infrastructures, and software development environments. OMG's Modeling standards, the basis for the MDA, include the Unified Modeling Language See UML. (language) Unified Modeling Language - (UML) A non-proprietary, third generation modelling language. The Unified Modeling Language is an open method used to specify, visualise, construct and document the artifacts of an object-oriented software-intensive system (UML) and Common Warehouse Metamodel For other uses of "CWM", see CWM (disambiguation). The Common Warehouse Metamodel (CWM) is a specification for modeling metadata for relational, non-relational, multi-dimensional, and most other objects found in a data warehousing environment. (CWM). CORBA, the Common Object Request Broker Architecture (standard, programming) Common Object Request Broker Architecture - (CORBA) An Object Management Group specification which provides a standard messaging interface between distributed objects. The original CORBA specification (1. , is OMG's standard open platform with hundreds of millions of deployments running today. Headquartered in Needham, MA, USA, with a U.S. government representative in Washington, DC, and international marketing representatives in Japan, the UK, and Germany, the Object Management Group is an international, open membership, not-for-profit computer industry specifications consortium. OMG member companies write, adopt, and maintain the organization's standards following a mature, open process. All current OMG specifications may be downloaded without charge from the organization's website, www.omg.org; the site also provides additional information about OMG and its activities.
