Lee Does Dallas.

Chuck Lee doesn't have to stray far from work to find his favorite golf hole. "It's the sixth on the Tournament Players Course (TPC (Transaction Processing Performance Council, San Francisco, CA, www.tpc.org) An organization devoted to benchmarking transaction processing systems. Due to its central location between Dallas and Fort Worth and its proximity to DFW Airport, Las Colinas has been a viable place in the Metroplex for corporate and business relocation. ," he says. "The hole runs right by our Dallas headquarters, and sometimes when I'm out there, I can hear our employees hooting and hollering at me."

Lee had played No. 6 many times before he decided it was his favorite. And that happened earlier this year during the pro-am for the GTE GTE General Telephone & Electronics

Byron Nelson John Byron Nelson, Jr. (February 4 1912 – September 26 2006) was an American PGA Tour golfer between 1935 and 1946.

He and two other well known golfers of the time, Ben Hogan and Sam Snead, were born within 6 months of each other in 1912.

asked me to play with him, and our pro was Freddie Couples," recalls Lee, who carries a 13 handicap. "And as we stood on the first tee, Jim grabbed the microphone and announced that his broadcasting partner Ken Venturi Ken Venturi (born May 15, 1931) was a prominent PGA Tour professional during the late 1950s and early 1960s.

Venturi was born in San Francisco, California. Venturi first gained national attention in 1956 when, as an amateur, he finished second in that year's Masters after

was there, and after we all hit our drives, he said he would come out and join us on the course."

Venturi caught up to Lee's group on the sixth hole, a 396-yard par-four. "I hit a real good drive," Lee says, "and then I hit an approach shot that almost went in. It probably ended up 15 feet from the hole. I told everybody I would drain my putt, and I did for a gross birdie. I got a stroke there, so that made it a three-for-two.

"Then I went up to Ken and said that he now had only one Captain's selection left for his President's Cup team because I'd clearly earned the right to be the other with that birdie. The only caveat, I told him, was that I had to play from the member's tees and needed strokes. Venturi chuckled and mentioned my birdie on the air later in the week."

Lee, who moved to Dallas in the fall of 1998 when his company relocated its headquarters from Stamford, CT, gets to play golf maybe once a week. "I work too hard to get out any more than that," he says. "But one of the good things about living down here is that you can pretty much play year round." And after his birdie at six, he finds himself playing the TPC course at Las Colinas more than any other.

"Why not?" he asks. "After all, it has my favorite hole."!

The TPC Course at the Four Seasons Resort and Club at Las Colinas

Location: Irving, TX

Hole: 6th, par four, 396 yards

Hole Description: The tee shot is very tight, and for the first 200 yards, trees line both sides of the fairway. The prevailing wind is left-to-right, but players cannot usually feel that because of the trees. And that can be troublesome given that out-of-bounds is on the right. A good drive to the right center of the fairway will leave you with a slightly uphill approach shot of approximately 165 yards to a smallish green surrounded by grass bunkers.

Course Architect: Jay Morrish, with Byron Nelson and Ben Crenshaw serving as consultants

Club Description: The TPC track is part of the 400-acre Four Seasons resort at Las Colinas, which also includes the Cottonwood Valley golf course and is located just seven miles from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. The facility is open to its 650 golf club members and hotel guests. Greens fees run $150 per person, including cart. Built in 1985, the par-70 TPC layout comes in at just under 6,900 yards.
