The project will feature an exhibition and exchange center; a meeting and trading area for Chinese manufacturers and exporters and North American importers and users; and liaison and representative offices for both the Chinese and U.S. governments.

"The label 'Made in China' means high quality at a low price," Nelson Li, managing director of William B. May International said Tuesday at the 2003 China/U.S. Economic and Trade Conference in Manhattan.

According to Li, William B. May will divide and build the large office space into show booths, offices and conference rooms and then lease the booths and offices to tenants from China and the U.S.

The company is looking to rent at least 300,000 s/f, with the possibility of expansion at a later date, Li said.

Tenants are expected to include Chinese merchandise shops, companies from China seeking American office space, Chinese government agencies, American companies that do business with China, supporting companies and trade associations.

He added that New York was an ideal location for extensive international trade between the U.S. and China.

"New York is the exchange hub of information, commodity and service," Li said. "It's the exchange center of the economy."

And trade between the two countries could use a boost, Li added.
