Learning something. On January January: see month. 14 in Shreveport, Louisiana Louisiana (ləwē'zēăn`ə, l ē'–), state in the S central United States. It is bounded by Mississippi, with the Mississippi R. , a man walked into a gas
station shortly before noon and removed some sodas SODAS - [D.L. Parnas & J.A. Darringer. Proc FJCC 31:449-474, AFIPS (Fall 1967)]. from a cooler. After
walking to the counter, supposedly to check out, he pulled a gun on
store co-owner Elvir Cehajic and demanded money from the cash register.
Cehajic complied, then grabbed a gun of his own and fired two shots at
the thug.
The robber ran from the store and jumped into a waiting car driven by an accomplice accomplice: see accessory. . The two fled, but minutes later police received a report that someone in a house a few blocks from the crime scene had been shot. When officers arrived, they found the robber, Brandon Young, suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest. They also recovered the gas station's stolen money. Young was treated for his wound at a local hospital and charged with armed robbery. Cehajic, who owns the store with his sister Elvira, told the January 15 Shreveport Times that he praised God for enabling him to emerge from the ordeal ordeal, ancient legal custom whereby an accused person was required to perform a test, the outcome of which decided the person's guilt or innocence. By an ordeal, appeal was made to divine authority to decide the guilt or innocence of one accused of a crime or to unscathed. "I'm just happy to be alive and to be with my family," he told the Times, adding that he was also glad that Young "is alive and not in life-threatening condition. Hopefully, he will learn something out of this." It was the second robbery within days at the gas station. About two weeks earlier, a man had used a similar method of operation to rob another clerk, after which the Cehajics had a security camera installed. The second robbery was caught on tape, enabling police to conclude, in the words of a department spokesman, that "it looks like it is going to be a justifiable jus·ti·fi·a·ble adj. Having sufficient grounds for justification; possible to justify: justifiable resentment. jus shooting." |
