Free radicals are produced during the course of oxidation in our bodies. Many of us have heard of the phrase "free radicals" but many folks do not entirely recognize what they are.

What precisely is a "Free Radical"? While most of us have heard the phrase, it is not inevitably comprehensible accurately what a free radical is. A free radical is a naturally occurring byproduct of our physical functions. In disproportionate quantities they are dangerous and they can injure our cells and produce disease and age related decay. However, they are not all detrimental and our bodies do require some of them.

Think about how an apple will turn brown if you slice it and leave it exposed to air. That variation in shade and quality is from oxidation. That is ultimately the identical process that our bodies go through and it is the equivalent procedure that causes free radicals in our bodies.

Oxygen is necessary for most of our bodily functions. It is transported through our bloodstream to where it is considered necessary. Oftentimes the oxygen molecules in our bodies are lacking in the number of electrons that they possess. Since the molecule needs a specified number of electrons the oxygen molecule will lift an electron from another molecule, which in turn leaves that molecule with an unpaired electron. Any molecule with an unpaired electron is a free radical.

There are many diverse factors that can play a part to the manufacture of free radicals. The quality of the oxygen could be impaired because of environmental pollutants, cigarette smoke and more. Various bodily functions and issues could also add to poor quality oxygen. Free radicals can be created by the food that we eat, too much exposure to the sun, exposure to radiation and environmental pollutants. When the body uses oxygen for natural processes, unpaired electrons or free radicals are released in the process.

Given that free radicals are so exceedingly unstable they can begin a great deal of chaos and distress for the body. Science has revealed that free radicals are a important contributing cause to premature aging, the clogging of arteries and the growth of many diseases.

Antioxidants even out the free radical by coupling up the unpaired electron. In this way antioxidants defuse the free radical. However, in the process, more are created. Because of that you must at all times continue to replace antioxidants. You must consume these nutrients on a reliable basis.
