Leanne hunt: Police seek body in well.

Byline: LYNDSEY WEATHERALL

POLICE hunting for missing schoolgirl Leanne Tiernan fear she may have been dumped in an ancient well. Officers from West Yorkshire's police underwater unit have searched 32 drain shafts close to area of Bramley, Leeds, where 16-year-old Leanne was last seen 21 days ago.

They believe an old well shaft could lie nearby, and have called in experts from Yorkshire Water to help them.

Leanne, a pupil at West Leeds High School, vanished as she made her way home following a Christmas shopping trip in Leeds with her best friend, Sarah Whitehouse.

A huge police search has so far failed to come up with any clues, despite searches of more than a thousand garages, sheds, industrial units and 500 houses

Her distraught family and friends say her disappearance is totally out of character.

Many of them have helped to make public appeals for information about what has happened to Leanne.
