The African American Parent Guide To Public School Success -- A Common Sense Approach To Helping Your Child, found at http://www.urbanren.org, provides advice and practical tools to encourage academic success and prevent suspensions and expulsions. Dr. Brown, a veteran educator whose career spans over 18 years, and amongst several states throughout the nation, said that he developed the guide in response to the high rate of suspensions and expulsions of African American students, and their declining academic performance in California schools. "Because I love children, and believe that every child can succeed, I felt led to develop a holistic tool that would tie teacher, parent and child together."

The book is described as "timely and invaluable for the success of our children's education and their parents' relationship to their education," by Mrs. Tracee Lewis, a Sacramento City Unified School District Healthy Start Specialist. The book also gives step-by-step instructions on how to connect with your child's teacher, advice to prevent your child from being suspended from school, and what to do should your child be suspended.
