today announced that one of the world's foremost lighting manufacturers has purchased two of its 654ix systems for use in the production of High Brightness (HB) LED lights. The tools will be shipped to Southeast Asia Southeast Asia, region of Asia (1990 est. pop. 442,500,000), c.1,740,000 sq mi (4,506,600 sq km), bounded roughly by the Indian subcontinent on the west, China on the north, and the Pacific Ocean on the east.  and are scheduled to be installed during the first two quarters of 2007.

The 654ix features dual load lock, in-line, side-sputtering batch capabilities as well as the newest KDF cathode designs to improve uniformity across the entire pallet. Additionally, the x Series cathodes are available in both Planar and Inset forms. The customer will use the 654ix systems for the production of lighting requiring HB LED applications including interior and exterior automotive, street and domestic lighting. The enhanced lights offer consumers an extended life span along with increased energy efficiency when compared with more traditional forms of lighting. KDF's customer currently uses the 643 systems in other modes of manufacturing.

"The sale of our 654ix tools further solidifies KDF's ongoing relationship with this customer," said Todd Plaisted, director of sales and marketing, KDF. "Our tools were chosen because of their advanced qualifications, reliability and customization potential. HB LED lighting and soon, ultra-high brightness (UHB UHB Ultrahigh Brightness

) LED, are the most advanced energy-saving lighting technologies available. KDF is pleased to partner with innovative companies that offer such state-of-the-art technologies to the end user."

The 600 Series systems are used mainly during production of sensitive applications needing target material that generates unusually high particulate contamination. The tools are configured with an optional high vacuum load lock along with three or four target positions.

ABOUT KDF

KDF Electronic & Vacuum Services, Inc., produces batch in-line sputtering A popular method for adhering thin films onto a substrate. Sputtering is done by bombarding a target material with a charged gas (typically argon) which releases atoms in the target that coats the nearby substrate. It all takes place inside a magnetron vacuum chamber under low pressure.  tools in a wide variety of R&D and production formats for the mainstream silicon, emerging materials and flat-panel display flat-panĀ·el display

The first flat panels appeared on laptop computers in the mid-1980s, and the LCD technology became the standard. Stand-alone LCD screens became available for desktop computers in the mid-1990s and exceeded sales of CRTs for the first time  and radio frequency power devices.
