Leading German Universities and Technical Colleges Deploy PTC(R) Solutions.

NEEDHAM, Mass. -- PTC (PTC, Needham, MA, www.ptc.com) Long a world leader in mechanical computer-aided design, manufacturing and engineering software, PTC, through acquisitions and reorganization, has transformed itself into a leading provider of Internet-based B2B solutions for discrete manufacturers.  Pro/ENGINEER(R), Windchill(R) and PTC-University Learning Environment Provide Leading Edge Product Development Environment for 23 Universities and Technical Colleges in the State of North Rhine Westphalia

PTC (Nasdaq: PMTC PMTC Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (of HIV/AIDS)

), the Product Development Company(TM), today announced that 23 universities and technical colleges in the State of North Rhine Westphalia have teamed up using Pro/ENGINEER and Windchill for critical engineering education. Up to 45,000 engineering students per year can be trained on PTC solutions. The Rheinisch-Westfalische Technische Hochschule Technische Hochschule (acronym TH) is, what an Institute of Technology (i.e. a university focusing on engineering sciences) used to be called in German speaking countries, before most of them changed their name to Technische Universität (acronym: TU  Aachen (RWTH Aachen Aachen University is one of the most prestigious universities in Germany and one of the leading technology universities in Europe. Its main focus are technological studies, especially electrical and mechanical engineering.  University), one of the leading technical universities in Europe, is driving the project by deploying Pro/ENGINEER for 3D product design and Windchill for content and process management within the North Rhine Westphalian Resource Network.

Universities have a critical need to complement traditional engineering curricula with collaboration skills required by international multi-site engineering projects. However, more and more European universities face constraints in budget and teaching resources, which make it difficult for the schools to deliver the training necessary to compete in today's highly competitive global manufacturing environment. To meet these

new and more efficient learning concepts that add flexibility and bandwidth to traditional methods. PTC enables up to 10,000 parallel users to work with Pro/ENGINEER and 5,000 users to access PTC-University with Windchill and Pro/ENGINEER training courses and teaching material for students and teaching staff.

"The use of digital design and collaboration tools is becoming a key element of engineering training curricula. To be able to participate in globally distributed projects, engineers have to be proficient both in the use of digital modelling and collaboration tools," said Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jorg Feldhusen, Dean of the Institute for Engineering Design at RWTH Aachen University and project leader in the country's Resources Network. "With Pro/ENGINEER we can provide our engineering students with access to mechanical design software that represents the state-of-the-art in modelling capability and associativity with downstream processes. And with Windchill, our students learn to apply project collaboration as best practices in engineering and cross-discipline processes. The additional use of the PTC-University learning platform expands our traditional teaching offerings to innovative E-learning methods and curricula within a blended learning Blended Learning is the combination of multiple approaches to learning. Blended learning can be accomplished through the use of 'blended' virtual and physical resources. A typical example of this would be a combination of technology-based materials and face-to-face sessions used  model."

"We believe it is essential to offer leading technology which can contribute to the education of the next generation of highly skilled engineers, as they will help the industry to stay competitive by keeping the high level of expertise to develop innovative products," said John Stuart The name John Stuart can refer to:

  • John Stuart, 3rd Earl of Bute (1713–1792), Prime Minister of Great Britain from 1762–1763.
, senior vice president, Global Partners & Education, PTC. "Our product development system is a great solution to support the needs of universities in complete alignment with the needs of our customers. In addition E-Learning has a remarkable potential to support the objective of increasing training bandwidth in spite of cost pressures."
