, the industry leader in the high-speed bus IP market, today announced that they are releasing their PCI Express A high-speed peripheral interconnect from Intel introduced in 2002. Note that although sometimes abbreviated "PCX," PCI Express is not the same as "PCI-X" (see PCI-SIG and PCI-X for comparison). As a result of the confusion, "PCI-E" or "PCIe" is the accepted abbreviation.  Gen II IP solution, and have secured an ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) Pronounced "a-sick." A chip that is custom designed for a specific application rather than a general-purpose chip such as a microprocessor.  design-win from a leading fabless company Fabless Company

The Fabless Semiconductor Association (FSA) defines fabless as follows:

Fabless (without fab) refers to the business methodology of outsourcing the manufacturing of silicon wafers, which hundreds of semiconductor companies have adopted.
.

The PCI Express Generation II product from PLDA features double the transfer speed - up to 5Gb/s - while maintaining the same quality, backward-compatibility, and ease of integration inherent in PLDA's PCI Express products. Already the Gartner-ranked number one supplier of PCI-related IP cores, this announcement firmly positions PLDA as the leader in the deep submicron PCIe architecture space. A complete test chip for PLDA's Generation II IP will be available to third parties beginning Q1 2008.

Additionally, PLDA disclosed that they have already secured an ASIC design-win for their 65nm solution from a major fabless IC company. This customer expects to tape out in the second half of 2007, with product availability slated for Q1 2008.

"PCI Express offers many benefits to both FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) A type of gate array that is programmed in the field rather than in a semiconductor fab. Containing up to hundreds of thousands of gates, there are a variety of FPGA architectures on the market.  and ASIC customers." stated Owen Lee, General Manager, ASIC Sales at PLDA. "We are very excited to extend our product offering to include Gen II capabilities to better serve our customers' requirements." Lee added "The Gen II Market is gaining speed very quickly. We have several other key fabless companies actively engaging with us on this product line, indicating that PCI Express is poised for pervasive deployment throughout the industry."

About PLDA's PCI Express Generation II Product: The PLDA PCI Express IP core is PCI-SIG compliant. It includes a flexible and easily configurable GUI-based wizard to customize the IP to a customer's individual application. Additionally, the PLDA PCI Express Generation II product has demonstrated interoperability with major PHY See physical layer and physical.  manufacturers and is proven through a variety of software verification IP tools, as well as hardware verification using Gen II prototyping FPGAs and servers. PLDA offers a free trial of their IP solution - contact them for details.

Product Availability: The PLDA PCI Express Generation II product has been extensively tested on FPGAs and prototyping servers from leading chip companies and is available to ASIC customers today. Please contact PLDA directly for information about securing a test chip for review in Q1 2008.

About PLDA

PLDA designs and sells a wide range of ASIC and FPGA interfacing solutions for the PCI Express, PCI-X (PCI eXtended) An enhanced PCI bus technology originally developed by IBM, HP and Compaq that is backward compatible with existing PCI cards. PCI and 32-bit PCI-X slots are physically the same, and PCI cards can plug into PCI-X slots. , PCI (1) (Payment Card Industry) See PCI DSS.
