Hughes Tele.com (India) Ltd. (HTIL HTIL Hutchison Telecommunications International Limited ) today announced it has launched broadband wireless services in Mumbai using AIReach Broadband wireless access systems from Hughes Network Systems Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HNS), is a provider of broadband satellite network products for businesses and consumers. HNS pioneered the development of high-speed satellite Internet access services and IP-based networks with its original DirecPC service but which it now markets  (HNS HNS Hughes Network Systems LLC

).

The new system operates at 26 GHz providing a high-speed radio transmission capability known as Local Multipoint Distribution Service LMDS is a broadband wireless access technology governed by the IEEE and is outlined by the 802 LAN/MAN Standards Committee through the efforts of the IEEE 802.16.1 Task Group.

LMDS commonly operates on microwave frequencies across the 26GHz and 29GHz bands.
(LMDS (Local Multipoint Distribution Service) A digital wireless transmission system that works in the 28 GHz range in the U.S. and 24-40 GHz overseas. It requires line of sight between transmitter and receiving antenna, which can be from one to four miles apart ). HNS is a global leader in broadband wireless systems with AIReach Broadband, point-to-multipoint systems deployed around the world.

"The HTIL team has been able to deploy more than 2,000 lines of voice, data and leased-line services in major buildings in Mumbai in less than three months using broadband wireless access," said Prakash Bajpai, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of HTIL, in announcing the successful deployment of the first phase of the project. "Broadband wireless is proving to be a fast and economical way to extend our metropolitan fiber network the last mile to the customer's premises." The project is expected to cover deployment of broadband systems in more than 1,000 major buildings in Mumbai and the rest of Maharashtra. "HTIL is pioneering the deployment of broadband access networks in Maharashtra and we will offer a full suite of telephony, Internet and multimedia services with a roll-out plan to exceed 200,000 subscribers this year. The AIReach Broadband wireless system from HNS will help us achieve that goal," said Bajpai.

The deployment of the first phase went very smoothly according to Pranav Roach, president of Hughes Network Systems India, which performed the installation, commissioning and integration of the broadband wireless system.

"Installation of a wireless base station connected to the fiber ring leading to the deployment and activation of service with the broadband radio and access mux in each building can be done in a fraction of the time it would take to lay fiber on a massive scale to each building. We can put 45 Mbps ATM and IP services into dozens of buildings a month instead of waiting for permits to dig up streets," said Roach.

"Meeting HTIL's requirements is a challenge," according to HNS' senior vice president of engineering John Corrigan III. "Mumbai is a dense traffic area in a tropical rain zone. You need high capacity as well as the ability to tolerate monsoon conditions with less than an hour of rain outage per year. The AIReach Broadband network is a carrier-quality multimedia service transport mechanism that uses 16- and 64-QAM modulation with advanced power control methods to provide high capacity and low bit error ratios (BER (1) (Basic Encoding Rules) A set of encoding rules for ASN.1 notation, which is a method for defining data structures. See ASN.1.

(2) (Bit Error Rate) The average number of bits transmitted in error. See BERT.

) even under very heavy rain conditions," Corrigan said.

The AIReach Broadband 9000 base station supports multiple STM-1 or OC-3 interfaces, while the remote terminals installed in office buildings support multiple E1/T1, frame relay, 10/100BaseT and ATM ports at speeds up to 44.736 Mbps with both reserved and bandwidth-on-demand traffic.
