A lifelong Texan, McLane is commemorating his 10th anniversary as chairman and CEO of the Houston Astros. During that time, he not only has touched the hearts of area sports fans and enhanced the landscape of downtown Houston, but also has positively impacted the lives of countless Houstonians through his many charitable endeavors.

During McLane's decade as owner, the Astros have won four National League Central Division championships. Also, thanks largely to McLane's leadership, Minute Maid Park, which some have called the nation's best ballpark, opened to the public as the jewel of downtown Houston for the 2000 season and will host the 2004 Major League Baseball All-Star Game The Major League Baseball All-Star Game, also popularly known as the "Midsummer Classic", is an annual baseball game between players from the National League and the American League, currently selected by fan vote for the starting position players and by the respective managers .

McLane's business career is a distinguished one. He rose from warehouse worker to president, CEO and chairman of the board of the family grocery distribution business, McLane Company, an international firm that distributes to over 30,000 convenience stores and fast-food restaurants.

McLane's many charitable efforts throughout the Houston area are coordinated within the Astros in Action Foundation. Implemented by McLane, Astros in Action focuses on such community issues as literacy, education, health and faith-based initiatives. He also serves on and chairs many boards throughout Texas and is actively involved with the Boy Scouts of America Noun 1.
