The legislature meets at the Texas State Capitol in Austin. In Texas, the Legislature is considered the most powerful branch of state government because of its aggressive use of the power of the purse to  to approve a pilot school choice program. CONLAMIC is a national non-profit association composed of over 15,000 Christian churches throughout 32 states, which promote social justice issues such as school choice.

"Today, CONLAMIC has sent an urgent message to state legislators - school choice now! We understand the importance of remedying our children's education through parental choice. In order to have a triumphant reform that will improve our children's education, parents need to be in charge of where their children are being educated," said Reverend Miguel Rivera, President of CONLAMIC.

School choice is a parent's right to choose the school his/her children attend. This measure is the highest form of accountability that will improve existing Latino education conditions.

In Texas, only 57 percent of Hispanic children will graduate from high school in comparison to 75 percent of white children. In addition, only 3.1 percent of the Texas Hispanic population holds a bachelor's degree.
