Latest FireWire Products Show Continued Adoption of the IEEE 1394 Standard Worldwide; New PCs, Notebooks, DVD/RW, Camcorders, Storage Systems Top Newest List.

The 1394 Trade Association today published a new list of 1394-equipped consumer and computer products from around the world. Included in the new products for September and October are desktop and notebook PCs, printers, storage devices, DVD/RW products, and digital VHS players. The recent list is highlighted by advanced storage products, including Maxtor Corporation's new One Touch 5000Xt and 5000DV hard disk drives, and ASUSTek's SCB-2408D External Combo Drive.

"The industry worldwide continues to adopt the FireWire standard across a very wide range of consumer and computer products," said James Snider, executive director of the 1394 Trade Association. "We are very pleased to see this overwhelming adoption, especially as we move into the next phase of IEEE 1394 product development, which is focussing on the new `b' version, with its higher bandwidth and extended distances."

The 1394b version extends bandwidth to 800 Megabits/second immediately with a map to 1.6 Gigabits/second. Distances extend to 100 meters under the new version. Silicon is now available and first 1394b products are expected early in 2003.

The new list has desktops from Eizo, Epson, FOSA, Gigabyte, Fujitsu, and NEC, along with new notebook and portable PCs from Acer, Argonaut, ARM, Ashton Digital, ASUSTek, Brick Computer, Chem USA, CVT, Cybernet, FOSA, Epson, EUOCOM, Mars, Max Computer, Laird, Micro Express, Micron PC, NEC, PC Club, PC Notebook, ProStar Computer, Sager Midem Computer, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, Systemax, Toshiba, Twinhead, Victor JVC, ViewSonic, and PaceBlade.

Printers: from Epson, the PM-970C; from Canon, the Pixus F9000 Bubble Jet.

DVD/CD RW products: Amacom Technologies' Baby Combo Drive DVD/CD-RW; Hitachi's DVD Multi Recorder IVJ-RDVDC; and Pioneer's new DVR series, along with I-O Data's DVD DVR-iEH2.

Digital VHS Players: Panasonic's NV-DHE20 and NV-DH2.

Set Top Boxes: Panasonic's EP Station Series.

Digital Video Cameras: Panasonic's Digicam NV series, along with a wide variety of models in Canon's XV, FV, and IXY series.

Televisions: Hitachi's 51SWX20B 51-inch UltraVision integrated HDTV; and most models in Sanyo's VisionPlasma TV series.

Scanners: The GT-9800F and GT-9700F from Epson.

Workstations: The Sun Blade 150 Workstation

Digital Still Cameras: Fuji's FINEPIX S2.

Digital Video Cameras: Canon's Optura 200MC; JVC's GR-DVM96U Cybercam; and the DCR-PC120BT DV Handycam and DCR-TRV50 Digital 8 Handycam, both from Sony.
