The Eugene Thunder came within eight seconds of victory at Lane County Ice on Saturday, but the Puget Sound Kings scored on a power play to force overtime, and both teams settled for a 3-3 tie.

Adam Seward scored at the 18:30 mark of the first period with assists from Zach Zane and Jake O'Neal to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead. The Kings evened the match at 1-1 in the second period before Eugene regained the advantage at 3-1 on back-to-back goals from Evan McGill and Steve McCracken. Craig Lindgren, Zane and O'Neal were credited with assists.

The Kings added a goal late in the second period to pull within 3-2 before Shaun White tied the game at the 19:52 mark of the third period. Eugene remains in first place in the Northern Pacific Hockey League with a 6-0-1 record, while Puget Sound is 0-5-1.

Cross country

The Oregon women's team rested two of its top three runners, but the Ducks still placed third with a total of 110 points at the Willamette Invitational in Salem on Saturday.

The Ducks' top finisher was Laura Harmon, who placed 14th overall with a time of 17:40.85 over the 5,000-meter course.

In the team competition, Idaho's Letiwe Marakurwa led the Vandals to a one-point victory over Auburn, 46-47, as she captured individual honors in 16:57.58.

Volleyball

Oregon State gave undefeated Eastern Washington a scare, but the No. 18 Eagles remained perfect after coming back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Beavers in five games at Gill Coliseum in Corvallis on Saturday. The Eagles improved to 17-0 after the 30-32, 26-30, 30-27, 32-30, 15-10 win over OSU, which dropped to 6-8.

OSU's defense turned in a season-high 103 digs, with five Beavers in double figures. Nikki Neuburger had a career-high 33 digs, the fourth-best total in school history.
