Pechiney, formerly the plastic packaging operations of American National Can, has used straight-line laser scoring to make opening film packaging since the mid- mid- pref. Middle: midbrain. 1980s. The alternatives--perforations or razor scoring--also make only straight lines. Pechiney's new 2D laser scoring lets film tear along a contoured line up and around obstacles like the slider A block of material that holds the read/write head of a magnetic disk.
