Larry Horn Named President, Licensing and Business Development.

DENVER -- MPEG LA, LLC announced today that Lawrence A. Horn was named President, Licensing and Business Development.

In announcing Mr. Horn's promotion, MPEG LA, LLC Chief Operating Officer Maria F. O'Reilly said: "Larry is a leader in the worldwide patent licensing community. His promotion is in recognition of MPEG LA's rapid expansion into offering new licenses and developing new business opportunities spanning a broad range of technologies, and Larry's continuing responsibility for managing them."

Mr. Horn has directed MPEG LA's Licensing and Business Development since the company began operations in 1997 employing a unique one-stop technology platform patent licensing model, which it pioneered for the MPEG-2 Video and Systems standard. MPEG-2, used in cable and satellite digital set-top boxes, DVD players and recorders, PCs with DVD and DVD discs, is recognized as the most successful standard in consumer electronics history.

Prior to joining MPEG LA, Mr. Horn was Head of Business Development, Marketing and Sales for Martek Biosciences Corporation (1994-97); President and Owner of HKM Corporation (1985-93); Senior Vice President and General Counsel of PBS (1978-85); with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's Office of General Counsel (1975-78); with a Washington, D.C., law firm and Adjunct Professor of Chinese Law at Georgetown University (1974-75). He is a graduate of Yale University (BA, Chinese Studies) and Columbia University (JD). An authority on one-stop technology platform patent licensing, Mr. Horn speaks at numerous conferences and trade shows worldwide and has published numerous articles. Horn currently resides in Bethesda, Maryland, and is a native of Peoria, Illinois.
