Largest U.S. biodiesel plant opens--The new Imperium Renewables
plant, near Grays Harbor, Wash., which officially opened August 15, is
the largest biodiesel plant now operating in the U.S. It has an annual
capacity of 100 million gallons, according to the National Biodiesel
Board (NBB). The NBB reported the 148 plants currently operating in the
U.S. have an average size about 9.5 million gallons per year. In
addition to the increasing number of plants, plant size is increasing.
The plants under construction will have an average capacity of about 19
million gallons per year. The industry expects to create about 40,000
jobs and $24 billion between now and 2015. (www.biodiesel.org)
