Large osteoma of the external auditory canal.


The otoscopic view is that of the right ear of a 40-year-old man. He complained of obstruction and hearing loss. The bone-hard mass fills the ear canal ear canal

The diagnosis of osteoma osteoma /os·te·o·ma/ (os?te-o´mah) a benign, slow-growing tumor composed of well-differentiated, densely sclerotic, compact bone, occurring particularly in the skull and facial bones.  was confirmed by computerized tomography. The tumor was removed easily by cutting the skin around the fractured neck at its attachment to the anterior bony canal wall. The skin quickly healed over the bone after the osteoma was removed.
