that history is nothing without the historian.

After reading and rereading this historic article, we have concluded that one of the article's strengths, to a great degree, is in the listing of the components---the persons, the personalities and the companies--of our African American publishing industry. Prior to your BIBR feature, we have seen ourselves listed in articles, with our media coverage in fragments here and there; but never before in our 15-year modern-day publishing history have we seen ourselves listed as one--our strength and numbers for all to behold be·hold

The other benefit is that this will change significantly the total look, feel and thought, not only of how African Americans are perceived as a significant segment of the book publishing book publishing. The term publishing means, in the broadest sense, making something publicly known. Usually it refers to the issuing of printed materials, such as books, magazines, periodicals, and the like.  industry, but also of how we perceive ourselves as key components and players of the total industry's success.

The third and last part is that within the corporate structure, because of your article, we believe those "powers that be" will see themselves for what they are, what they have done and not done in keeping a '50s, archaic thought process of African Americans, especially black males in executive positions.

We sincerely believe that with this article in hand and with our greater visibility and independent power, the corporations will begin to make those necessary changes themselves.

It is more than a great beginning, a great article ... it is a historic beginning, a historical piece of work.
