Lanxess reduces Sarnia butyl rubber production.


Lanxess, Leverkusen, Germany, has had to cut back the production of butyl rubber butyl rubber: see rubber.  at its Sarnia, Ontario Sarnia is a city in Southwestern Ontario, Canada (city population 71,419, census area population 88,793, in 2006). It is the largest city on Lake Huron and is located where the three upper Great Lakes empty into the St. Clair River. , Canada, site since the end of December in the continuing absence of deliveries from its major raw material supplier Nova Chemicals (Canada) Ltd. As a resuit, Lanxess is now issuing force majeure [French, A superior or irresistible power.] An event that is a result of the elements of nature, as opposed to one caused by human behavior.

The term force majeure
 notices to its customers in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Asia and South America. This situation will continue until Nova Chemicals is able to supply sufficient raw material volumes.
