Lannett Company Receives Approval for Pilocarpine HCL.

PHILADELPHIA -- Lannett Company, Inc. (AMEX:LCI), a manufacturer of generic pharmaceuticals, today announced that it has received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of its Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) for Pilocarpine HCl tablets. According to NDC Health, total sales of generic Pilocarpine HCL were $24 million in 2004. Pilocarpine HCl is a "cholinergic" drug used for the treatment of dry mouth caused by radiation therapy for head and neck cancer, a treatment that damages the salivary glands and reduces their production of saliva. Pilocarpine HCl is the generic version of Salagen(R), marketed by MGI Pharma.
