This week, Suzette Lopane, a licensed landscape architect and associate planner with the county Department of Planning, was honored as one of the "Forty Under Forty--Rising Stars" by the Business Council of Westchester. The forty young stars, aged 21-40, were selected for their professional and/or entrepreneurial accomplishments and leadership qualities. With the department since 1996, Lopane coordinates the many agencies and local groups involved with the development of many neighborhood parks Neighborhood parks, which generally range in size up to 30 acres, serve as a social and recreational focal points for neighborhoods and are the basic units of a park system. Many include a playground. and playgrounds throughout the county, including the county's first interactive water spray playgrounds in Sleepy Hollow and Port Chester. Lopane helped design the Library Green Park in New Rochelle. Her enthusiasm, hard work and attention to detail have resulted in the implementation of more than $20 million of public facilities projects. County Executive Andy Spano said, "I congratulate Suzette for this well-deserved recognition. She not only has the skills to pull together the funding and cooperation of federal, state, county and local governments to make these projects work, but really goes the extra mile to connect with and listen to the local people, who are the real reason we commit to these projects."
