Here is another gardening book. It was first published in 1836 in Sydney by the Scottish Landscape Gardener Thomas Shepherd who established the first commercial Garden Nursery in what is now Chippendale in Sydney. In addition he describes how a new settler could develop an estate and a landscape garden. Importantly he was the first to argue against the cutting down of gum trees gum trees see eucalyptus. and claimed they should be used as part of the structure of an Australian garden. His book gives a description of two early Sydney gardens, Elizabeth Bay garden and another called Lyndhurst in the present suburb of Glebe GLEBE, eccl. law. The land which belongs to a church.
