Lamb patties with melon and mint.

Lamb and melon, both flavored by mint, cook on the grill. 1/4 cup slivered almonds 1-1/2 pounds ground lean lamb 2 tablespoons fine dry bread crumbs 1 large egg 1 clove garlic, pressed or minced 1/2 cup minced onion 1/2 cup minced fresh mint About 1 teaspoon salt 1 small cantaloupe, seeded and cut into 6 wedges Orange wedges

In a 6- to 8-inch frying pan, stir almonds over medium-low heat until golden, about 7 minutes. Let cool; finely chop. Mix together almonds, lamb, bread crubs, egg, garlic, onion, 1/4 cup of the mint, and salt to taste. Form into 6 patties about 3/4 inch thick. Place meat patties and melon wedges on a grill 4 to 6 inches above a solid bed of hot coals. Cook meat, turning once, until browned and done to your liking, about 8 minutes for medium-rare (cut to test). Turn melon often until hot, 8 to 10 minutes.

Transfer to a serving platter. Sprinkle meat and melon with remaining mint. Offer orange wedges to squeeze over meat and fruit. Serves 6.
