Business Editors/Hi-Tech Writers

CHANTILLY, Va.--(BW HealthWire)--July 9, 2001

LabPortal.com today announced that American Medical Laboratories of Chantilly, Va. and Las Vegas, Nev. ("AML AML - A Manufacturing Language  East and West") and Cedars-Sinai Health System of Los Angeles, Calif. ("Cedars-Sinai") have fully implemented version 4.3 of the LabPortal (TM) Internet-based clinical lab connectivity solution.

Two other LabPortal.com clients, Geisinger Medical Laboratories of Danville, Penn. ("Geisinger") and Pathology Associates Medical Laboratories of Spokane, Wash. ("PAML PAML Publicly Accessible Mailing Lists

LabPortal.com links community-based integrated delivery networks (IDNs), hospitals and regional commercial laboratories with their physician constituents by providing access to a full suite of private-branded laboratory functions via the Internet.

The LabPortal solution allows labs to process both in-house and referred tests, making it possible for them to be the primary laboratory solutions providers in their communities and reducing the need for physicians to use outside laboratory services.

LabPortal's order entry module automates the production of laboratory requisitions, including medical necessity screening and immediate generation of required Advance Beneficiary Notices.

The initial implementation is occurring at multiple physician offices, hospitals, patient service centers and other facilities associated with AML and Cedars-Sinai, allowing more than 3,600 healthcare providers to use the web-based LabPortal system to electronically order and review results of diagnostic tests.

Physicians and their authorized staff members log into the secure LabPortal application from the sponsor laboratories' websites.

AML and Cedars-Sinai are using LabPortal under an Application Service Provider (ASP) arrangement, with all functionality being routed through the LabPortal Data Center in Chantilly, Va. The application is interfaced to the existing laboratory information systems at each facility.
