Labor relations issues discussed at AFS human resource conference in Chicago.Forty-five industry representatives attended the AFS A distributed file system for large, widely dispersed Unix and Windows networks from Transarc Corporation, now part of IBM. It is noted for its ease of administration and expandability and stems from Carnegie-Mellon's Andrew File System. AFS - Andrew File System Labor Relations & Human Resource Conference, held Nov. 10-11, at The Drake Hotel, Chicago. The two-day conference addressed several issues that metalcasting staffs and their employees often face. The first day featured a presentation from Woodruff Imberman, Imberman and DeForest de·for·est tr.v. de·for·est·ed, de·for·est·ing, de·for·ests To cut down and clear away the trees or forests from. de·for Inc., discussing how to manage Hispanic employees. Dane Hudson, Strategic Health Plans Corp., also delivered a presentation, "The Rising Cost of Health Care." Robert Zawacki, Zawacki and Assoc., kicked off the second day with a speech titled, "Motivating and Keeping Top Performers." Later in the morning, Steve Wenk, Kurdziel Industries Inc., Dave Lorey, Fort Wayne Foundry Corp., and LeAnn Barr, American Cast Iron Pipe Co., participated in discussions addressing both union and non-union labor relations with metalcasters. Brad Hill, Hay Group, led the afternoon sessions with his presentation, "Compensation Trends & Gainsharing," followed by Mike Flaherty, Jackson Lewis, who addressed in his speech topics on wage/hour regulations as well as employees' personal obligations. The conference concluded with a presentation from Bill Rancic, commonly known as the winner on the first season of NBC's The Apprentice.
