An eighteenth-century anatomical museum, La Specola is home to a justly famous collection of visible women (medical teaching aids whose exposed organs can be removed) now visible online, as well. It's at once the Sistine Chapel Sistine Chapel (sĭs`tēn) [for Sixtus IV], private chapel of the popes in Rome, one of the principal glories of the Vatican. Built (1473) under Pope Sixtus IV, it is famous for its decorations. By far the best-known achievements in the chapel are the work of Michelangelo. Across the ceiling he painted nine episodes from Genesis. of ceroplasty ceroplasty /ce·ro·plas·ty/ (ser´o-plas?te) the making of anatomical models in wax. (the art of modeling anatomical specimens in wax) and the stage for a pathological beauty pageant worthy of David Cronenberg, where women are at last appreciated for their inner beauty.
