LANCASTER - Country music legend Loretta Lynn Loretta Lynn (born Loretta Webb April 14, 1934) is an American country singer-songwriter and was one of the leading country female vocalists during the 1960s and 1970s and overall is revered as a country icon.  abstained from performing through most of the 1990s while she took care of her dying husband.

 officials held a news conference at the Lancaster Performing Arts Center to announce the booking. Lynn's show will be a part of the 103.1 FM KTPI KTPI Party of National Unity and Solidarity (Suriname)  Country Concert Series that Clear Channel sponsors.

``Not only do you get a country icon, but also someone who's very hot right now,'' Larry Thornhill, Clear Channel's local general manager, said about Lynn.

Tickets are $45, $50 and $55 for her performance at 8 p.m. May 16 at the theater, 750 W. Lancaster Blvd., where performing-arts manager Mary Tanner said there had been a campaign for years to book Lynn, who famously schedules her concert tours on short notice.

In early January, Tanner had been told that Lynn would not be touring this spring. In late January, Tanner got a call that the tour was on.

``We have had what we call an open offer on Loretta Lynn for two solid years. That means anytime she wanted to come, and if we had the date available, she was welcome,'' Tanner said.

At the 47th annual Grammy Awards on Feb. 13 in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. , Lynn is up for five awards from her album ``Van Lear Rose,'' named for a town near the place where she grew up in Kentucky. The album producer is half of the White Stripes rock duo.

Lynn's nominations are for Best Country Album (``Van Lear Rose''), Best Country Song (``Portland, Oregon'' and ``Miss Being Mrs.''), Best Country Collaboration (``Portland, Oregon,'' a duet with White) and Best Country Female Vocal Performance (``Miss Being Mrs.'').

Lynn won a Grammy in 1971 for a duet with Conway Twitty Conway Twitty (September 1 1933 - June 5 1993), born Harold Lloyd Jenkins, was one of the United States' most successful country music artists of the 20th century.

He had the most singles (55) reach Number 1 on various national music charts.
 on ``After the Fire Is Gone.'' The rags-to-riches story of Lynn, who was married as a teenager and already a mother of four when she started performing seriously in 1961, was told in her autobiographical book and a 1980 movie, ``Coal Miner's Daughter.''

``She's a wonderful writer; she's a wonderful performer and a pretty neat lady,'' Tanner said.
