LWV of Sarasota County, FL.The LWV LWV abbr. League of Women Voters of Sarasota County, FL, reports that it "adopts a precinct A constable's or police district. A small geographical unit of government. An election district created for convenient localization of polling places. A county or municipal subdivision for casting and counting votes in elections. PRECINCT. " on election days. This program, brainchild of the County Supervisor of Elections in 2002, allows a group full charge of one of the County's 120+ precincts pre·cinct n. 1. a. A subdivision or district of a city or town under the jurisdiction of or patrolled by a specific unit of its police force. b. . Poll workers are encouraged to return their pay to the group. To overcome the problem of a single long shift, the League proposed a split-shift; the Supervisor of Elections agreed to a trial. The League recruited and registered poll workers. For continuity, one worker was on duty the entire day For the November 2002 gubernatorial gu·ber·na·to·ri·al adj. Of or relating to a governor. [From Latin gubern election, the League was in charge of Precinct #29, Sarasota County, and the County provided a sign to that effect.
